iver johnson did not add a loading gate to their solid frame (pull pin cylinder release) models until 1961. iver johnson and many other companies used this method for a hundred years or so as a was to keep cost down. When a cartridge is aligned properly under the hammer for firing the cartridges nearest the loading slot are off center enough so they won't come out. that date is only true if the serial number found on the left side of the grip frame is the same as the one found on the bottom of the trigger guard. as the D letter code series did not go up the serial number on the bottom of the trigger guard on this revolver i believe it is safe to say (unless the trigger guard has been replaced) that this revolver serial number 79906 was manufactured in 1918 there were approximately 10,000 of this model manufactured that year. revolver double action įirst used no letter code 1911-1920 (1-99,999) second used letter code D 1921-1933. there were two serial number series used on the small frame 22 rimfire u.s. to determine the exact date of manufacture the serial number i need is on the left side of the grip frame under the grip panel. the serial number found on the bottom of the trigger guard is there just to keep the parts together during final finishing and assembly. the main serial number location is on the left side of the grip frame under the grips.
